St John Fisher Catholic High School

SEND

At St John Fisher, we believe every child deserves to feel supported, valued and able to thrive. Our highly regarded Learning Support Department is dedicated to helping all students reach their full potential, whatever their individual needs may be.

We are committed to inclusion and ensuring that children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) have equal opportunities and access to every aspect of school life. You can find our full policy on inclusion and SEN on our website, which explains the many ways we work to support and empower our students.

Our Learning Support team works closely and compassionately with teaching staff, Heads of Departments, Heads of Years, and our Pastoral Support Team to identify, assess, plan and review the needs of each student. We have strong links with our local primary schools, ensuring that when children join us in Year 7, we already have valuable insight from their Year 6 teachers to help make the transition as smooth and positive as possible.

Once students begin their journey at St John Fisher, we keep a careful eye on their progress through regular school reporting. For some children, we also provide more specialised monitoring through the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process, always working in partnership with families to ensure each child’s needs are met.

Above all, our aim is to provide the right level of support whilst ensuring that every student can enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum that can be adapted to suit their unique strengths and requirements. For those who may need it, we offer personalised intervention programmes tailored to help them flourish both academically and personally.
