Enrichment & Leadership
At St John Fisher, enrichment is a valued and vibrant part of school life. We believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, and we are committed to developing the whole person - nurturing character, compassion, confidence, and leadership in every student.
Our enrichment programme offers a wide range of activities beyond the timetabled curriculum to enrich learning, build cultural capital, and provide opportunities to take on leadership roles. Whether through clubs, sports, the creative and performing arts, academic competitions, gaming, or community and faith-based projects, there is something for everyone to enjoy. These experiences help students discover new interests, develop valuable skills, grow as leaders, and build lasting friendships.
Enrichment is central to our mission of Educating for Life - broadening horizons, sparking curiosity, and preparing our young people for bright and purposeful futures.

Exploring, Discovering, Growing: A Year of Adventures for Year 12
The year ahead promises an exciting array of trips and expeditions designed to enrich the Year 12 experience beyond the classroom. From the vibrant streets of Salamanca to the tranquil shores of Runswick Bay, students will explore diverse landscapes and cultures. Highlights include outdoor challenges in the Lake District and North Yorkshire, cultural outings to Harrogate Theatre and the White Rose Shopping Centre, and insightful visits to Leeds Trinity University. The year culminates in the inspiring Lourdes pilgrimage, offering opportunities for reflection and service. Together, these experiences foster independence, curiosity, and lifelong memories.

Highlights of the year include an unforgettable visit to London to experience the renowned Rambert dance company, a meaningful retreat at Castlerigg in the Lake District, and the ever-popular Salamanca trip, deepening language skills and cultural understanding. These experiences are designed to broaden horizons, strengthen friendships, and provide valuable moments of reflection as students prepare for life beyond school.

Debating Society
Debating Society
The Sixth Form debating club meets at lunchtimes on a weekly basis. Most weeks we prepare a debate on an agreed, usually topical, subject. The format of the debate varies, though we often hold parliamentary-style debates so we can include as many people as possible. We also enter competitions, such as the ESU Mace, so there are opportunities to compete against other schools. We also hold informal (but nonetheless competitive!) inter-school debates a few times a year.
Debating develops important skills, such as constructing an argument, thinking on your feet and communicating clearly to an audience. These skills are invaluable at school, university and beyond. At the very least we encourage you to come along and see what we do. In time we hope that you will have a go. Debating is a skill, so while it will probably be nerve-wracking at first, practice makes a huge difference. In any case, it is always carried out in a supportive, friendly and good humoured environment. Debating Club is an always enjoyable occasion.

Sports
Sports
At our sixth form, sport plays a key role in supporting both physical and mental health. It’s also a great way to build teamwork and strengthen friendships. Whether you’re taking to the field for rugby or football, enjoying the fast pace of netball and basketball, joining the running club, or picking up a badminton racquet, there’s something for everyone. We encourage you to get involved, stay active, and enjoy all the benefits that come with being part of a team.
